“We found OITS kind of by accident. We got some random mail one day, and we’re going through it, and there was a little flier in there. It kinda caught my eye because it said information school, and my son is interested in doing IT stuff. We started looking at it. I was a little skeptical because it’s a virtual school, and I wasn’t quite sure if that was something that would fit for us. We started talking about it and decided we’d give it a year – we’d try it out, and it’s been the best decision that we’ve made. We’ve been very happy with the school.”

“The transition was scary, when we went from in-person to online. Of course you never know since you haven’t been virtual like this what to expect. Sometimes you have doubts and you worry that your child may fall behind or they may fall short. I have to say, that hasn’t happened. If anything, I can say it’s challenged John a lot.”

OITS students scored above state average in Oklahoma State Testing subjects in 2021.

“Everything about OITS, I love it. It’s creative, different. It’s not crowded, no loud noise, no talking in the background: just you, focusing. And If you want to ask a question, you can ask a question. You have one-on-one time – go into a breakout room or something – teachers staying in there, helping you with whatever you’re looking for help with.”

Lower student-to-teacher ratios allow more time for in-depth, hands-on projects and learning tailored to students’ specific need and interests.

“For teachers it’s always an impressive and exciting moment to see students are learning and mastering the tasks, assignments. OITS: it does allow students to self-pace and accelerate when needed, when they want.”

“The math teacher does everything in his power to make sure that he can help me. Even when school is over he will arrange zoom meetings: really prepares you for what is going to go on in the future.”

“We offer really good science and computer programs. Every grade level is taking some sort of computer program every semester”

“It teaches the four core courses every semester, and all the electives are based on computer stuff. I think it’s preparing me to be able to work with the stuff I want to work with for a future job.”

OITS’s strong Computer Science focus prepares students for 21st Century career opportunities and lifelong learning.

“They have journalism. They have music. They have Debate Club. Just other different clubs you would not think your child will get to participate in – he’s still able to do some of those things even though he is virtual. “

“I feel like my son gets more one-on-one interaction with the teachers. If he finishes the class then he can start on the next grade. So he’s in 8th grade, but he’s also taken some 9th grade courses. So that way he has more assignments and is learning more, and is challenged – not just sitting in class doing nothing like he would complain about in the traditional brick and mortar schools.”

OITS empowers students to own their education through self-pacing, but also provides a strong support system as a safety net.

“The thing I like most, of course, is the communication between parents, students and teachers. They are always available to you. If they can’t talk to you at that point they will definitely call you back. You don’t ever feel like you’re getting the runaround. You don’t ever feel like they’re soft pedaling anything, because they will tell you exactly what’s going on with your child.”

“I can go on the parent portal at any time and look at his grades, look to see each assignment. It almost replaces being in-person in school, because you’re able to have that one-on-one contact that you would not be able to have if you were in-person. You would have to schedule a parent/teacher conference and go in. I’m able to do it by Zoom, anywhere that I am – whether I am on break at work, at lunch, at home, in my car running an errand, I can still communicate with his teacher.”

“For people who are a little unsure if OITS is for them, I’d say try it out. It was something I was skeptical about; I wasn’t sure how it would fit for my family, because it is so different. But a virtual school gives extra opportunities that you wouldn’t necessarily have in a traditional school. It also teaches better communication, because you have to have email skills, and you have to have the skills to maybe call your teacher. So I think it prepares them for life after High School, in a college setting, because they are already going to be familiar with seeking out help if they need it. And being a self-starter since it is a virtual school.”

“You won’t find a better place to be challenged, because their teachers constantly challenge them – and let us know where he falls short. Or when something is due that hasn’t been turned in. It always lets us know what’s going on with our son.”

“If you’re looking for a school that cares about the students, OITS is it. If you’re looking for teachers that keep an open communication with not only their students but their parents, OITS is it.”
